Allergy testing is the first part of your evaluation and treatment planning. Our primary goal is to ensure that you are safe, comfortable and well-informed throughout this process.
Allergy testing determines your specific allergic triggers. From this, your Asensa Drops™ are customized to your specific needs.
We perform most allergy testing using the skin on the arm, since this is considered to be the most accurate method. With some medical conditions or specific clinical situations other testing methods may be used, but skin testing is the preferred option.
Preparation for Skin Testing
Patients need to discontinue certain medications that can interfere with the accuracy of the testing. The testing team at Texas ENT Specialist will contact you prior to your appointment to discuss your medical history and current medications.
An allergy skin test involves putting small amounts of a variety of antigens such as dust, pollens, etc. into the skin, and identifying the allergic response. Most patients do not experience discomfort or pain during allergy testing.
- Skin testing methods include a combination of prick testing and intradermal testing.
- Prick testing uses a multi-prong device, with no needles, which places 10 different allergens simultaneously into the skin. We test for a total of 38 allergens. After application of the allergen, we wait twenty minutes and then identify the responses.
Intradermal Testing: Intradermal testing requires a small injection given under the skin. Intradermal testing is used when the prick testing is inconclusive.
Texas Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists uses the protocol for allergy testing approved by the American Academy of Otolaryngologic Allergy (AAOA).
At the Texas ENT Specialists, we will review your allergy testing results immediately on the day of your test and provide your treatment recommendations at the same visit, saving you any additional trips to the office. Our team prides itself in answering all of your questions so you can leave fully informed and ready to start on the path to allergy relief.
What if I have already been allergy tested at another facility?
It may be possible for Texas ENT Specialists to customize Asensa Drops™ for you based on previous allergy tests performed at another facility in the last two years. Please contact us and we will review the allergy results you have to see if they are sufficient to formulate Asensa Drops™. Of course, if you would prefer to be retested to insure accuracy, you may do this as well.
